Gunnar's Place

Gunnar’s Place was inspired by a brave little fighter named Gunnar, who was born prematurely at just 26 weeks gestation. He spent the first 11 months of his life at Children’s Hospital in Omaha. During this challenging time, his parents had to continue working during the week, which meant they could only visit him on weekends. Knowing that Gunnar needed more specialized care than a typical daycare could provide, they had to wait until they could secure nursing care for him to ensure they could continue working.
We were those nurses. Over the past year, we’ve watched him thrive and grow. However, he’s missing out on crucial socialization, emotional aand behavioral skills. That’s why we decided to create Gunnar’s Place—a haven where children like him can develop these essential skills without waiting for nursing care. At Gunnar’s Place, every child will have the opportunity to learn, play, and grow in a supportive and nurturing environment.
Our inspiration comes from seeing the incredible resilience and potential in children like him. Despite their medical challenges, these children have so much to offer and deserve a place where they can flourish. We want to create an environment where medically fragile children are not just cared for but are also given the chance to build friendships, develop independence, and experience the joys of childhood. Gunnar’s Place is our way of ensuring that every child, regardless of their medical needs, has the opportunity to thrive both medically and socially.
